Venue Guide  /  Larkspur, Colorado

# Weddings at Spruce Mountain Ranch.

Two ranches on one property, sitting in the pines between Colorado Springs and Denver. Eleven distinct ceremony and reception settings, which is a gift and a decision.

## The property

Spruce Mountain Ranch sits in Larkspur, in the pine country along the corridor between Colorado Springs and Denver. It is arranged as two separate ranches, Lower and Upper, each with its own character, and that division matters more than most couples realise when they book. The Lower Ranch is intimate and wooded. The Upper Ranch is built for scale, with rooms that carry four and five hundred guests.

The practical consequence is that a wedding here is really a choice between two different days. Deciding which ranch the day belongs to, early, is the single most useful thing a couple can do for their photographs and their timeline.

## The Lower Ranch

Grace's Chapel is the ceremony setting most couples picture when they think of this venue, set beneath a willow with Spruce Mountain, a creek and wildflowers behind it, and it holds around two hundred. Mountainside opens onto a meadow looking over the ranch and Ogden Pond at the same capacity.

Receptions on this side run through Albert's Lodge, which seats roughly a hundred and seventy five to two hundred and opens through large doors onto a courtyard with a floor to ceiling wood burning fireplace, and The Colorado Room at around eighty to ninety five, which has a stream, a dewpond and both an indoor and outdoor fireplace. The Courtyard itself, walled in rock with a log pergola, carries two hundred outdoors.

## The Upper Ranch

The Ponderosa Room is the largest space on the property at roughly four hundred to four hundred and fifty seated, with its own courtyard and stage. The Spruce Room and The Aspen Room both use glass overhead doors that lift to open the room to the mountain view, which is the detail that makes them photograph well, and they seat around a hundred and seventy five to two hundred and a hundred and fifty to a hundred and eighty respectively.

Outdoors, Trey's Vista is a grassed vista that carries up to five hundred, and The Lakeview Terrace sits at the water's edge of Angus Lake with a stone gazebo and fountain at the intimate end, roughly forty to sixty seated.

## Light in the pines

Pine country behaves differently from open Front Range property. The trees break the light into hard patches through the middle of the day, which is unflattering on faces and difficult to correct afterward, and they also cut the sun earlier in the evening than an open meadow would. The compensation is that the hour before that happens is soft, warm and completely shaded from the harshness that open Colorado light carries at six thousand feet.

We build the timeline around that window rather than around the published sunset, and we scout which of the eleven spaces will be holding it on the specific date of the wedding. In June and in September those are not the same places.

## How we work here

We walk the property before the wedding, time the light against the spaces chosen, and mark the positions we will use. On a property with two ranches and eleven settings, that preparation is the difference between a day that flows and a day spent walking. We arrive early, stay out of guest sightlines, coordinate directly with the events team, and carry full liability coverage and redundant equipment as standard.

## A note on this page

We have not yet photographed a wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch, and we will not illustrate this guide with anyone else's work or with stock imagery. When we photograph here, the frames will be ours and they will appear on this page. Everything above comes from working in Colorado light since 2009.

## Some moments deserve more than a memory.

If Spruce Mountain Ranch is where your day will happen, we would be glad to walk it with you.
